Presentation by Mr R. McKinstry at the 10th International Lessons Learned Conference dated 17 May 17.

Leadership in Crisis & Complex Operations – The NZDF introduced a new organization-wide leadership development framework in 2011. Supported by a leadership development system, comprising focused development programmes at multiple levels of command and leadership, the framework seeks to improve the performance of NZDF leaders on operations in complex environments. At the heart of the system is an emphasis on enhanced self awareness through the use of experiential activities, self-reflection, peer feedback and psychometric tools. Implicit within this approach is exploration of personal decision making preferences, tools for adopting a systems thinking approach, and acknowledgement of
individual biases. The presentation expands on information first presented at the International Military Leadership Association working group meeting in 2014, and has been updated to
include recent changes in programme content and training methods.
